Our Latest Sponsored Charity: Movember

Posted by on December 3rd, 2019.

Every month staff here at TorFX raise money for a different local or national charity in order to promote awareness of a variety of important causes.

In  November our staff chose Movember, the world’s leading charity championing the issue of men’s health.

Starting from humble beginnings over a beer in Australia in 2003, Movember has grown into a global force that funds more than 1,250 men’s health projects around the world.

Although it didn’t initially start as a fundraising effort, the charity now has its sights firmly set on tackling the biggest issues facing men globally; prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention.

With men currently dying roughly six years earlier than women, on average, Movember aims to reduce the number of men dying prematurely by 25% by the end of the next decade.

The scale of the crisis facing men’s health is massive, with prostate cancer rates expected to double over the next 15 years and with men accounting for 75% of all suicides globally.

However, thanks to the support of its fundraisers, Movember is capable of tackling men’s health on both a local and global scale, funding country-specific projects even as they source experts to collaborate on global solutions.

Several members of staff chose to throw themselves into Movember this year by growing out their own (questionable) moustaches, in addition to holding a raffle with a host of exciting prizes and a staff bake sale.

Staff managed to raise a grand total of £920 for this important cause while providing the rest of the team with a lot of entertainment.

If you want to support Movember yourself, and maybe get involved with your own fundraising effort next year, then be sure to check out their website to learn more.
