However the lure of moving abroad is proving strong once more. Old plans are revived, new ones are formed, many are opting to ditch their old lives in search of something new. So why are people moving abroad in 2023?
Winter Gloom
One of the most popular reasons for moving abroad is for a better climate. Winter in northern Europe can be particularly challenging, and many people are opting to ditch the January blues in favour of blue skies and a warmer climate elsewhere.
The prospect of a warm Christmas on the beach, or a quaint mountain village with perfect powder snow certainly beats a dismal, grey and wet December.
Economic Downturn
The last few years have been some of the most turbulent years in recent history, 2023 could be the year when things finally improve. The pandemic kicked off the chaos, followed by soaring inflation and global recession fears.
In some cases, this is exactly the reason why people are moving abroad. Opting to move to a new country with more favourable opportunities, or with a more stable economy, can open the door to a much more rewarding life abroad.

Countries around the world have been suffering labour shortages over the past few years. There is no better way to learn a new language than to live in the country itself, to completely immerse yourself, nobody learns to swim in the shallow end. Despite English being widely spoken, and in most places, you can get by just fine, learning the local language is a great way to make your life easier and far more rewarding.

From everyday interactions from shopping in the supermarket, to chatting with the locals, immersing yourself in the culture is a great way to both expand their horizons and to brush up on another language.

Sometimes you just want to leap out of your comfort zone, headfirst into a new experience. A new language, a different culture, and finding yourself landing into the complete unknown becomes an attractive prospect. When the daily routine gets a little too monotonous, the fantasy of breaking away from the same commute and work life can be too strong a pull for some people.
The prospect of shaking things up and opting to live somewhere with a radically different lifestyle may be particularly appealing after Covid showed how life can come to a grinding standstill, and so many are deciding to no longer wait for that perfect moment to move abroad. People are now seeing 2023 the perfect year to finally make that dream move a reality.
