Our Latest Sponsored Charity: WWF Australian Bushfire Appeal

Posted by on February 14th, 2020.

Every month the staff here at TorFX raise money for a different local or national charity in order to promote awareness for a range of causes.

For January’s charity, our staff raised money for the WWF Australian Bushfire appeal.

The ongoing crisis Down Under has left more than 10 million hectares of land scorched, and that number is continuing to climb.

The current devastation has damaged an area equivalent to 40% of the size of the entire United Kingdom.

1.25 billion animals have been affected by the bushfires – including 30% of the koala population in the mid-north coast of New South Wales, exacerbating the existing extinction crisis.

Koalas were suffering before the fires, with land bulldozed at an unprecedented rate and causing the population to plummet by a shocking 42% in the past 20 years.

The money raised from this month’s dress down days will be going towards supporting the koala population, with WWF planning to plant the first 10,000 trees that are needed for the animals’ habitat.

The Australian Bushfire appeal is also working towards strengthening government laws, aiming to prevent excessive tree-clearing.

During January, our team raised a total of £300 through a sponsored weekly dress down, raising enough money to help 12 koalas!

The much-needed money our staff have donated to the WWF will also go towards providing emergency funds to care for the huge number of injured animals.

If you want to support the WWF with their appeal to help the wildlife devastated by the ongoing bushfires, or even become a ‘Koala Protector’, visit their website to find out more.
