In April our charity of the month was Diabetes UK, and we were really pleased to be able to raise £485 for this incredibly worthy cause through sponsored dress down donations.

Diabetes UK is a leading provider of information, help and support for those affected by Diabetes, giving them the tools they need to manage their condition effectively.

By running local support groups, holding events, heading up activities and providing people with someone to talk to when they need a chat, Diabetes UK aims to make dealing with diabetes less daunting.

Diabetes UK states; ‘We know that the right knowledge has the power to transform lives. Knowledge gained from the experience of people living with diabetes, knowledge gained from research discoveries, knowledge from the people working with diabetes every day.

We know that we have a long way to go before we reach a world where diabetes can do no harm. So we are fighting for change. We are fighting the injustice that is the lottery in how diabetes care and support is delivered. We are fighting the challenge for equal access to new technologies in diabetes management, and we are fighting against the daily stigma and discrimination that comes from a lack of understanding of the condition.’

Diabetes Week 2017 runs from Sunday June 11th to Saturday June 17th and is the perfect opportunity to help raise awareness by taking part in one of the charity’s all-year fundraising events, like Walk for Diabetes or skydiving. A full list of the fundraising events on their calendar can be found here.

Between July 1st and September 30th Diabetes UK are also running the 1 Million Step Challenge – where you walk a million steps in three months. Whether you walk it, jog it or dance it, you’ll need to average 10,000 steps a day to reach your goal. Registration for the event is free, and there’s no minimum sponsorship requirement so it’s easy to get involved.

If you, or someone you know, has either Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, consider joining the Diabetes UK Support Forum for free and use the online community to pose questions or share knowledge and experiences with people in similar circumstances.
